FITTING EVERYONE IN
Facilities are comfortable and simple: single bedrooms, twin and family rooms. All communal rooms are accessible to wheelchair users, and two downstairs bedrooms have been specially adapted for their use. The chapel, newly fitted with underfloor heating, benefits from an Induction Loop for the hard of hearing.

Room sharing has always been part of life at Othona – as at many other communities. Please do consider if you could share a room if necessary with one or more compatible visitors. It can mean we don’t have to turn applicants away. Having said that we recognise that some people must have a room to themselves. We don’t charge a single supplement, but there is a cost to Othona. The house holds up to 35 visitors, but only 15 if nobody is prepared to share!

We have just 3 single rooms in Community House, as well as 2 ground floor twin rooms which are often allocated to single people with mobility problems. Usually these rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis. Once they are booked, depending on the type of event and its likely popularity, anyone who specifies a single room may be asked to share, or join a waiting list until nearer the event. We try to honour your wishes and we appreciate your co-operation.

QUESTIONS OF MONEY
Concessionary charges are for those who need them. They are not tied to eligibility for any state benefit. Some pensioners, for instance, are very hard up, others are not. Some people in work – especially lone parents – have very little spare cash. So we leave it to your discretion whether you need a concession. Please don't be bashful about asking. Bursaries are available for those in financial hardship, for whom even the concessionary rate is too much. Applications are treated in confidence.

Just as Othona has never wanted anyone kept away by a lack of money, so too we appreciate your support if you value the community and can afford more than we charge. Please consider making a donation. With your help we can keep our standard charges very reasonable… and continue to offer concessionary rates and bursaries to those who need them. Othona is a registered charity. Through our collections in chapel we support two other charities: Msaada and the Bridport Scooter Scheme which helps young people to secure work and/or training and education, by lending or hiring scooters for a period of six months. This allows, for instance, those living in remote villages to reach the town or those living in town but working on the land to get to their place of employment.
