Through a gentle combination of talks, silence, prayer and companionship, this retreat will invite the mind to enter the place it never actually leaves – the present moment – and discover the awesome mystery that awaits.

This is the central practice of contemplative prayer. It suggests that there is always only now and that this is the only place that God can be found.

Simon Small is the author of "From the Bottom of the Pond: the forgotten art of experiencing God in the depths of the present moment" (published by O-Books in 2007; ISBN 978-1-84694-066-8) from which the retreat will draw inspiration.

The book has been an Amazon UK "spiritual" bestseller. It is a personal reflection on the experience of contemplative prayer and extracts were serialized in the Church Times. It also formed the basis for an edition of "Something Understood" on BBC Radio 4.

Simon recently worked for ten years as an Anglican priest. Before ordination he explored modern spirituality in its many manifestations, including the great eastern traditions and the New Age/Alternative scene.

He now lives in Glastonbury and works independently in the field of spirituality – writing, leading retreats and seminars, and acting as spiritual companion to individuals.
