An opportunity for self exploration; through our
experience of the natural world and through our awareness in meditation. We
will explore how the outer may touch and illuminate the inner and how the inner
world influences our experience of the outer. As we discover how Nature can
engage us spiritually, sensually and emotionally, we will discuss what
importance this has for us individually and for humanity as a whole. As well as
spending time outdoors, we will dip into writings from a range of sources
including nature writers, indigenous spirituality and ecopsychology.
With a lifelong love of nature, Julie Walker first trained in
botany and later as a psychotherapist, with some theology along the way. She
currently has a private psychotherapy practice in Dorset
and also does some seasonal ecological work including bird and botanical
surveys. Julie is researching what place our human engagement with nature has
on our psychological and emotional well-being and how this may be incorporated
into psychotherapeutic theory and practice, whether within the normal indoor
setting or outdoors in nature.
Elizabeth
Sayers will help us explore meditation practices to support and deepen the
experience. Elizabeth
engages with the natural world through walking and expresses her response in
her textile landscapes. She meditates regularly and is an experienced
meditation teacher.
