Towards Wisdom – Elders Exploring Life Experience

Sheila Ward is offering multiple copies of her book “Towards Wisdom”, free of charge, to reading groups of older people. Here’s what Sheila herself (who often joins us for One World Worship on the first Sunday of the month) says about it.

Towards Wisdom – Elders exploring Life Experience to create a future of hope

Wanted: Reading groups of elders!

This book explores the meaning, variety and significance of love. It is based on my own life experience as well as on the experience of older women who have come to our workshop/retreat for ‘Women  Exploring the Second Half of Life’  (see www.sophiatree.co.uk) which I have been running for over twenty years. Inevitably this is based entirely on women’s experience and it needs input from men and from women with other life experience. We are all different.

In the introduction Ursula King points out that one of the most important sources of wisdom is that of the old but, although there are more old people around than ever before, this does not seem to be appearing. (Perhaps because the impressive fluency and dexterity of the young with all their new technology is too daunting!) Where is the wisdom of the heart?

My husband and I are so concerned about the society into which our grandchildren are growing up that we are offering to send packs of five or six (or more) books free of charge to any reading groups who will read and reflect from their own life experience.  The book is not intended to teach, but rather to find resonance and awaken memories so that readers may more easily elicit their own wisdom.  Readers have said that the book is challenging and inspiring.

If you'd like to take part in this please contact me giving your address and the number in the reading group and I shall be glad to send you the books.
