How to get to Othona

Timing Your Arrival
Our residential events usually begin with the evening meal at either 6.30pm or 7.00pm (depending on the timetable). Please arrive after 4.30 if possible, since we may not be around to greet you earlier on. If you do plan to arrive early – or late enough to need food saved in the evening – please ring and warn us.

By Car
The house is situated on the B3157. This is the main coastal road from Bridport to Weymouth. We are midway between the villages of Burton Bradstock and Swyre (and on the seaward side of the road). Please take care when turning in at Othona; cars from both directions try to overtake on the hill outside our drive. Satnav users: our postcode is DT6 4RN  Here are some simple route outlines:

From M3: At junction 14 take M27 Westbound. At end of M27 continue on A31 all the way to Bere Regis. At Bere Regis roundabout take A35 towards Dorchester. Continue on A35 beyond Dorchester to Bridport. At first Bridport roundabout go left to follow A35. After less than a mile, at second roundabout turn left onto B3157 towards Burton Bradstock. Continue through Burton Bradstock village, remaining on B3157. Othona is 1.5 miles after the Burton Bradstock petrol station, on the right hand side of the road. Beware when turning in – cars from both directions try to overtake on the hill outside our drive.

From northbound M5: Exit at junction 29 and follow signs for A30 towards Honiton. Avoid Honiton town but take next slip road signposted A35 towards Dorchester. Continue on A35 until near Bridport. Do not go into Bridport but at roundabout take 3rd exit onto B3157 towards Burton Bradstock. Continue through Burton Bradstock village, remaining on B3157. Othona is 1.5 miles after the Burton Bradstock petrol station, on the right hand side of the road. Beware when turning in – cars from both directions try to overtake on the hill outside our drive.

From southbound M5: Exit at junction 25 (Taunton) and follow A358 all the way to Chard and then Axminster. (N.B At roundabout where A358 meets A303 take fourth exit and then first turning on the left.) From Axminster follow signs onto A35 towards Dorchester.

By Train
The nearest stations are Dorchester South and Weymouth. On weekdays there are trains from London Waterloo at 05 and 35 minutes past most hours – times differ at weekends. On a different line there are also connections via Bristol to Dorchester West and Weymouth – often more convenient and economical for travellers from the Midlands or North. N.B. There are direct buses to Othona from Weymouth, not Dorchester. For your return journey we can almost always organise a lift to the station with another visitor.

By Coach
There are coach connections to Bridport from various parts of the country. The coach which serves Bridport is the National Express 315 (from Eastbourne to Penzance) but it is possible to change onto this, particularly at Bournemouth (if coming from London) or Dorchester (if coming from Bristol and the Midlands). From Dorchester there is also the much more frequent bus 31 to Bridport. There is also a coach service from Heathrow airport to Bournemouth: Flightlink 205. Coach timetables change between summer and winter. Please check times and seat availability with your travel agent, or by ringing 08705 808080, or by visiting www.nationalexpress.com

Taxi Connections
Taxis from Dorchester or Weymouth cost about £20 (more at some hours), from Bridport £8.

Bus Connections
The X53 runs past Othona and will usually drop you outside on request (especially westbound from Weymouth). But we are not an official stop and drivers on the X53 have discretion whether to put you down at Othona or not. In heavy traffic it is just possible they may decline to stop. If so, please alight at the next village and phone us (01308 897130).
